4th  ANNUAL MAIN LINE GIRLS BASKETBALL SCHOLARSHIP RECOGNIZES DESIRE, DETERMINIATION AND COMMITMENT

WYNNEWOOD, PA.—(March 13, 2006)—The Main Line Girls Basketball Association (MLGBA) has announced the deadline for 2006 scholarship applications. All completed applications must be received by the MLGBA on or before May 8, 2006, to be eligible for the fourth annual MLGBA scholarship gift.

The MLGBA Scholarship Award was created to recognize those girls who are now seniors in high school who have participated in the league for at least five years with one year in the high school division. These girls must demonstrate their commitment to the Main Line Girls Basketball Association and to the community.

Since its inception in 1993, the MLGBA provides a fun introduction to organized basketball, improves athletic skills and gives older girls a chance to play in league competition. Research shows that playing sports provides girls with physical, mental and emotional benefits that last throughout their lifetimes. To give more girls the chance to play sports and gain those benefits, the MLGBA gives a sound foundation for beginners and a challenge for older players.

To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must submit an application, which can be found on the league’s web site www.mlgba.com.  The scholarship will be awarded to a senior (or seniors) who have participated in the league for at least five years, with one of those years in the high school division, has demonstrated good sportswomanship, concern for the community around her and has maintained a grade point average over 3.0. The applicant must also have two letters of recommendation from MLGBA coaches. She can attend private or public school.

Scholarship applications can be found by visiting www.mlgba.com or by calling the MLGBA Hotline at 610.617.9999 and requesting a scholarship fund application. The recipient of the fourth annual Main Line Girls Basketball League Scholarship Fund will be announced in June 2006. Past winners are Rebecca Maller, Justine Malloy, and Kirsten Lawson.
